    There are many different types of martial arts in the world. Well, explore the different kinds.

Hybrid: Hybrid Martial arts are martial arts that combine multiple aspects into one. This includes Jeet Kune Do formed by Bruce Lee. MMA is the most popular used in fights on TV. Kung fu which originated from China and Kickboxing which most people usually choose.

Weapons: Even though you do learn weapons in Taekwondo and Karate, here are the ones that mainly focus on weapons. Kendo (Fencing), Eskrima, Kenjustu, and Laido. Krav Maga is also a well-known one which is known for helping disarm people.

Energy: These are martial arts that focus on pressure points and chi and energy as well as how to harness it. Kyusho is an art that targets pressure points and can put your opponent into submission with just a few strikes to their energy flows. Tai Chi is a martial art to focuses on your energy and how to use it.

Striking Arts (Upper Body): The most common upper-body martial arts are Boxing, Wing Chun, and Kenpo. Boxing is only fixing with your hands and gloves, Wing Chun is a martial art that mainly focuses on your arms and hands and close combat. Kenpo is another form of karate and helps extend more of boxing. 

Striking Arts (Lower Body): Taekwondo, Karate, and Muay Thai are popular martial arts when it comes to kicking and using your legs and hips. Taekwondo focuses on endurance training as well as kicks even though it does have some upper-body moves, it is mainly lower-body focused. Karate is similar to taekwondo but focuses on everything as a whole, it also originated in Japan. Muay Thai is a martial art that mainly focuses on power and kicks.

Grappling: Wrestling, Judo, Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu, and Hapkido are martial arts that focus on close combat body and controlling and submitting movements through headlocks, holds, locks, and throws. These can be very helpful when on the floor and in body-on-body contact. 

Knowing at least 1 in each category can help you stay well-rounded in self-defense and also stay fit and healthy without having to spend time running on the treadmill or lifting dumbells.
